Questions.

Marking time

The significance of the title of the film is that the incident with the asylum seekers did actually mark a time because of the Olympic Games and the September 11 bombing, these event I think marked time in everyone’s life’s and the movie.

In the film the refugees were referred to as ‘boaties’, I think that this name is categorizing the refugees as ‘bad’ people. We are all humans and I feel like everyone earns the respect to be one not categorized just by a word.

In the film at one stage some boys steal Randa’s scarf, I think that the boys see someone who is different or there is some cultural difference they feel the need to somehow humiliate and embarrass them.

Hal returned the scarf back to Randa, this part is significance because he had the common curtsey and in a scene Hal lost his dad Olympic torch, then Randa found it and returned it. When Randa lost her scarf Hal returned it almost like a thank you for finding and returning his dads torch.

There were 2 scenes that were also significant are: Randa’s house was set on fire and she had nowhere to stay, one of Hal’s friends called him and informed him on what was happening, I think that this scene showed how much people care for Randa. Hal’s friend changed in this scene because he started supporting Hal and his decisions for being with Randa.

One of another significant scene is when Hal brings up the idea to run and away with Randa but Randa doesn’t completely agree but they run away. Hal wakes up the nest day and Randa is gone, she left a letter saying she wanted to protect her Dad. Hal chased after her and saw her leave in the bus. I feel that Randa left because her mother was shot and Randa felt as if she had to look after and protect her father.

Some of the differences between the town Brackley and Ararat is that we don’t have many refugees but we have many different other cultures living in Ararat. I feel as if there were a mix of different social groups such as they seems more of the younger generation around town more than the older generation.

I like living in a small town but at times it’s frustrating because I like being in Melbourne because you are able to walk around and do anything you want on your own. Ararat is home to me but its good to go out to Melbourne because I like feeling independent.

If I was to organise a festival for Ararat it would be a music festival and the money I raised would go to either a depression or cancer organisation. They would be activities for kids like face painting and rides. I would organise a range of bands so it could suit everyone’s different genres. I would put an ad and stick posters on shop windows.

I think Bullet had changed the most at the start of the movie he couldn’t understand why Hal liked Randa. At the start Bullet called Randa a boatie and it wasn’t until Bullet knew that Hal and Randa were serious. He changed so much he became more of an understanding positive person. Many of the class may say Hal or Randa but I think apart from the main characters Bullet changed a lot to me he changed almost from a teenager personality to his age.

I once went on a holiday to Queensland, Hamilton Island we were there for one week. It was the best feeling even though we had to go at 4am I was secretly excited. Although I was young I still didn’t like school.

We did almost every activity and we even met a contestant from the biggest loser. Hamiltion Island is such a beautiful place, the colours of the beach made me feel ‘free’. My experience there was all positive.

Now when im feeling a little up tight or stressed I try to go to Nan’s in Stawell or my cousins in Portland. Taking this holiday made me find a way to unwind and feel like Lucy, its like a way I cope now. Although it was very expensive  it made me relise when I was a kid I thought only about myself but when we returned home my Mum seemed less stressed and everyone was almost happy.
