Persuasive writing task topic 1.

Would you like to be cramped in a tiny space with barely any room to breathe let alone move? Or think about having just a glimmer of hope that maybe one day you will live a safe, happy life and live without having the thought you could be raped, abused and bombed at in minute of the day. I just explained what asylum seekers have to go through, I think we take for granted the fact we can be free and do what we want.

Deaths or Missing At Sea Since 2000: 1731

2012: 242

Take a look at those numbers, these people are fleeing their country because its they last hope or chance to have a great life. I will tell you what happens to majority of these alyssum seekers when people arrive by boat they are taken to a detention centre and held there until their claim for refugee status can be assessed. If they are found to be refugees they are issued a temporary protection visa. This allows them to stay but denies them access to many government services available to refugees who applied from overseas. If they cannot prove their refugee claim they may be held in detention until deported, or granted permission to stay on humanitarian grounds.

http://www.abc.net.au/btn/story/s3749309.htm please take a look at this video before you keep reading. The detention centre most asylum seekers are sent until they are refugee status is accepted which can take up to a year or even longer. I had read a case study about a guy called Raph and he explained that whilst he was in a detention centre his food and water had got stolen and he was threatened to give it to them otherwise he would be bashed. Detention centres aren't save, they have no freedom and  in Raph's case study he explained he food and water was stolen and he was no able to defend himself. Raph and I'm guessing this would of happened to other people as well they are all getting denied they basic human rights of food and water. The asylum seekers in the detention centres are still living a scared life, they still don't sleep at night.

I think its disgusting that people in Australia cant understand that we are all humans and no matter where we are from we should all be entitled to freedom and safety and happiness. I think the government should do something about their country or at least try to make more room for these asylum seekers, I don't believe they should be held in a detention centre and continually wait and hope. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but you just read mine.
thank you for reading.

Go Back To Where You Came From

In my english class we just finished watching the tv series called 'Go back to where you came from' i felt this movie made me change my mind about asylum seekers because it was about 8 participants all with different views of the topic. Most of the particiipants changed they views townards the end of the journey. It made me think about other people and they storys, I think that you Teachers got a good pick. I think this tv show made me feel sympathy towards other peoples storys and struggles.

Work Experience

I did my work experience at the Retirement Village, it was like a normal school day we started at 9.am and finished at 3pm. In the Retirement they held clients that aren't severely aged such as elderly that needed assistance eating and  the bathroom were put in Low Street. My workplace was always loud and alot of the time i felt very anxious because i thought i would almost like brake them if i tried to help, in my eyes i always saw the elderly as very frail. I worked with a partner most of the time so I wasn't really sure if i liked working by myself or as a team because i never got to experience it by myself. I liked working with a partner because it made me feel less anxious and felt a little bit more calmer. in the morning there was always the same task which was exercising with the elderly but the rest of the day had different activities to make the residents have abit of variety, i feel that did these activities as a coping mechanism. The different activities were bingo, ice cream cart, bowls and dress up days. Most of the time i stayed in one place in the building which was the activities centre but we did take some of the residents for walks, i didn't see a lot of the building until then. on the first day of my work placement i was so nervous, it took me 4 days to actually feel better about helping the elderly. the last day i actually felt good and felt like i did a good job. My mentor told me on the last day that i wouldnt suit this job which had made me feel really hurt and i feel that you cant learn all these skills that the workers have just in one week. I feel good that i choose the retirement village because i feel that it really isnt my sort of work. alot of the tasks i did i enjoyed alot the same, i didnt have a favourite one.
